The title I'm told is a little gruesome. I have been asked if there will be any blood. The last few years have been a roller-coaster. Turbulent times. Like nothing we have ever seen. The serious economic and political events in recent years such as high oil prices, the global recession in 2009, the current fragile economic situation globally but particularly in Europe and the ongoing Arab revolution in North Africa and the Middle East have each impacted soda ash markets. Other more product related, structural issues, have also infuenced market developments such as the recent addition of low cost soda ash capacity in Turkey. Together these various developments have impacted soda ash supply, demand and cost competitiveness, at times infuencing extreme volatility in soda ash.
