The most crucial analytical technique for the determination of elemental concentration is inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Understanding the elemental distribution on a thin section of a biological tissue is of great interest for development of research for medical applications. This became possible with the advanced imaging mass spectrometric techniques combining sampling processes from solid surfaces using a focused laser beam such as laser ablation-ICP-MS (LA-ICP-MS) in order to determine the distribution of metals in biological tissues.1 This technique is especially useful in brain research metalloproteins as it has been the focus of targeted therapy approaches of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer, tumor growth, and stroke.
