Metabolic profiling of two contrasting pecan varieties, Kanza (scab-resistant) and Pawnee (scab-susceptible) revealed that there was a significant difference between these varieties. Both varieties were found to have their unique metabolites. Those that were differentially accumulated in Kanza may contribute to Kanza's resistance to scab disease. Activity-directed fractionation, purification and structure elucidation will be performed using anti-scab assay and LCMS-SPE-NMR.
