The separation of lipid standards using a new FAIMS device shows the following: 1. Transmission efficiency in FAIMS OFF mode is ~40% on average for the set of lipid standards. 2. Lipid subclasses can largely be separated with a combination of FAIMS and MS polarity. Separation within a subclass can also be achieved. 3. Lipid structural isomers were not separated by the optimized FAIMS electrode set, however these results indicate a possibility for an MSn approach. 4. FAIMS in combination with MS and MSn is a promising technique for analysis of complex lipid samples without the need for liquid chromatographic separation.
