Characterization of commercial pomegranate extracts and determination of their anticancer effects on COLO-357 pancreatic cancer cells

The results indicated that the PomWonderful extract contained the highest concentration of phenolics. However, the PomGreat extract had the highest anthocyanin content. Previous studies show that phenolic compounds exhibit a greater anti-cancer effect than anthocyanins, therefore, PomWonderful was used in the biological analyses which examined the inhibition in PDAC cell proliferation. Through these biological examinations, it was shown that PomWonderful did increase PDAC apoptosis, decrease cell proliferation, increase E-Cadherin expression, and inhibit the VEGF protein.
