摘要

Chitosan is a glucose polymer containing amino pendant groups. It is obtained by the deacetylation of chitin, a major component of the exoskeleton of sea crustaceans and second only to cellulose as the most abundant glucose polymer. Chitosan is nontoxic and biodegradable. It is highly oxygenated and contains a reactive primary amino group. These properties suggest that it would provide a good base for the development of environmentally-friendly, non-halogen flame retardants. Treatment of chitosan with 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-oxide in carbon tetrachloride/tetrahydrofuran generates a phosphorus containing polymer which displays a much reduced peak heat release rate upon combustion compared to that of unmodified chitosan. Both thermogravimetry (TGA) and pyrolysis combustion flow calorimetry (PCFC) suggest that this material should function as a flame retardant additive for polymeric materials.
