The fed-batch fermentation process is considerably difficult to control accurately owing to its inherent nonlinear and time variant dynamics. To overcome the problems, an observer-based constrained model predictive control is presented for controlling the substrate feeding in bioreactor. First, the modified observer is used for obtaining full state information. Next, from the full state information, the controller is implemented using input output linearization method. The proposed controller (OCMPC) is compared with other controllers to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller. The simulation results have better tracking performance of output plant to the reference in the proposed controller than the others.
