摘要

The region of the Rio Negro basin in the state of Amazonas, Brazil is characterized by a wide diversity of soils ranging from the Cambrian to the Holocene period. This region contains floodable and nonfloodable areas with particular characteristics of biodiversity, temperature and humidity. The floodable areas have proved to be more important in the global cycle of carbon, indicating that floodable and nonfloodable areas influence biogeochemical cycles in distinct ways.
