Results of shell model calculations for 76Ni and 78Ni with newly derived effective interaction for the f5/2p3/2p1/2g9/2 and the f7/2f5/2p3/2p1/2g9/2 model spaces are presented. The calculated spectra of 76Ni in different spaces are compared and the role of the 56Ni core breaking is discussed. Calculated half-life and branching ratios for beta-decay of 78Ni and the effect associated with the f7/2 orbital are analyzed.
