The batch free radical polymerization of water soluble l-vinyl-2-pyriolidone (VP) in SCCO2 was studied to evaluate the possibility of preparing a drug delivery system in a single step. Polymerizations were carried using AIBN as initiator and reactive polysiloxanes as steric stabilizers in the presence of Ibuprofen as a model drug at 65°C and pressures up to 40 MPa, Collected experimental results suggest that the non steroidal anti-inflammatory agent can be entrapped inside the polymer microspheres generated during the polymerization and then released in aqueous phase with delayed kinetics.
