This paper describes a methodology for the design of feedback control systems and presents a perspective on the use of feedback control in ANVC. The methodology moves away from the traditional signal processing paradigm towards one based on feedback control and makes explicit the design compromises that are inherent in any design. In particular, it allows for an explicit choice of performance, bandwidth and control robustness at the design stage. Au example of one implementation of the methodology is given, the design of a digital narrowband and broadband feedback control system for an active engine mount.
