摘要

Composting is becoming more and more attractive as a biosolids management alternative. Land-use pressures and increased regulation of land application and injection, liquids restrictions at landfills, and flourishing markets for high quality compost all support the feasibility of composting. However, the costs and operational complexities of an exemplary biosolids composting operation still present challenges that may discourage many potential compost operators from entering the field. Advantages of operating on an intermediate cover on a compatible Subtitle D landfill can be many – philosophical, operational, financial, and sometimes even regulatory. Those advantages may be enough to sway otherwise skeptical participants toward the biosolids composting arena.
