Activity index in administering the treatment in ulcerative colitis in children

Aim: To increase the effectiveness of non-specific ulcerative colitis (UC) therapy in children by individual administration of medication on the basis of activity index development.Methods: We analysed the cases of 32 children aged 3-16 years with UC during their first hospitalization in SRICG (Scientific Research Institute of Children Gastroenterology). Basic therapy (BT) of 5-aminosalicylic acid preparations was administered to all children. Seventeen patients showed a good therapeutic effect. Since 15 children did not show any clinical improvement within 30 days, hormonal therapy (HT) with prednisolone was administered.We made a factor analysis of 87 clinical and laboratory parameters characterizing the child's condition and chose 13 as the most significant factors. These included: asthenovegetative, dyspeptic syndrome, the degree of trophic disorders, stool frequency, the presence of blood in stool, ESR, haemoglobin, white blood cells, relating to stab neutrophile shift in leukocytic blood count, copro-gramme, level L2 and 7-globulin.
