Welding of rat skin in vivo with solder containing 40 wt% BSA and nanoshells resulted in adequate acute strength for normal animal activity and demonstration of increasing wound strength over time. It was apparent during testing that the fluence could still be lowered and the concentration of nanoshells simultaneously lowered without compromising the ability of the protein solder to coagulate and cause binding of the tissue.
