Guavas are tropical fruits, exhibiting a strong and pleasant aroma with fruity, green and sulfury odor-notes. In Colombia several varieties of Psidium guajava L. differing in fruit size, shape, and flesh color are cultivated. Recently we have studied the aroma of Colombian pink-fleshed guavas, variety regional roja, and identified the key aroma compounds. The aim of the present study was to apply the same methodology on white-flcshed guavas of the Colombian variety regional blanca. Although their overall aroma is similar to those of pink-fleshed guavas, to date the white-fleshed guavas lack sufficient consumer acceptance.
