Radon is colourless gas, with high toxicity for lung tissue. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, and a serious occupational and public health concern. Different techniques are used to measure radon concentration at working environment. In this study, Track etch detectors were used to determine the radon levels at different working environment areas at segregation line, baling area, residual area and administration area at a Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). Radon radiation doses were also estimated. Simple remediation methods to reduce the radon concentration were recommended to the operator. Although the radon concentration and radon doses were reduced as result of remedial measures that were taken by the operator, the resultant data clearly indicated that simple remedial measures can be a powerful tool to reduce radon concentration.
