Evaluation of weld corrosion behavior and the application of corrosion inhibitors and combined scale/corrosion inhibitors

Laboratory studies using electrochemical techniques have been used to identify corrosion inhibitors for use in systems where weld corrosion has been deemed to be a problem. The testing carried out involved the use of a segmented weld corrosion test to identify inhibitors which will inhibit corrosion of the weld consumable. This technique has been used to look at conventional and environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors and combined scale / corrosion inhibitors. The results have shown that environmentally friendly inhibitors perform as well as the conventional type inhibitors in these studies.
