Section on Tumors: Young Investigator Award: Local Release of Carboplatin via an Alzet Mini-Osmotic Pump Prolongs Survival in a Rat Brainstem Tumor Model

摘要

Brainstem tumors account for 10-20(percent) of all intracranial tumors in children. Approximately 80(percent) of tumors arising in the brainstem are diffuse intrinsic lesions. The prognosis is uniformly very poor; the median time to disease progression is on the order of 5-6 months, the median survival time less than 1 year, and survival at 2 years and beyond, less than 10(percent).
