Antibodies Response Against V3 Loops Synthetic Peptides in Cuban B Subtype Patients

A study was conducted to evaluate the antibody response of Cuban HIV-1 seropositive patients against synthetic peptides of V3 loop of HIV-1 gp 120 due to the molecular findings of mutations that could have some important clinic and epidemiologic implications. We studied sera from 211 individuals with viruses classified as B subtype. Synthetic peptides designed from V3 loop (GPGR, GWGR and GRGR) sequences, were used in an indirect Elisa. High reactivity against these peptides was detected. 62 (percent) of the patients that reacted to GRGR and GWGR peptides as well as non reactive patients had a rapid progression while only 25 (percent) of patients that reacted to GPGR peptide had the similar progression with significance p <0.005. There is a relationship between the promiscuous or dual use of correceptor and the specific response in Elisa. An increase of incidence of these mutations has been observed since the 90's.
