摘要

Through the Big Green Train Project, BP with KBR as the engineering contractor undertook an extensive program that evaluated key aspects of design and engineering of a Baseload LNG Liquefaction plant. The study results provided a high level of confidence that "Next Generation" LNG plant designs are achievable and that the industry standards will be raised for future LNG plants based on design, capacity, life cycle cost and green house gas emissions. BP set aggressive targets and the project team met these challenges through close collaboration between the owner, contractor and process licensor. The Big Green Train plant designs were based on LIQUEFINTM liquefaction technology process that was developed by Axens/IFP, Institut Fran?ais du PEtrole. The project team set a program to determine if the other available liquefaction process technologies could deliver similar results. The team developed a benchmarking basis of design that contained sufficient level of detail on the design parameters without penalizing any of the LNG process technologies. Although this was a significant effort, it was required to ensure a fair and unbiased comparison of the technologies. This effort would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the LNG technology Licensors who participated. This paper shows that any of the participating process Licensors' technologies can be used for "Next Generation" LNG plants. While process technology has some influence on the cost of a LNG plant, success is really achieved by the owner/contractor project team working in conjunction with the process licensor toward common goals.
