The hot working behavior of γ-TiAl based alloys has been analyzed from the viewpoint of the influence of casting texture, alloy composition, chemical homogeneity and possible failure mechanisms. The obtained experimental findings were used for developing novel approaches to thermomechanical processing of ingot-metallurgy γ-TiAl alloys. Using the proposed approaches high quality pancakes and bars with a very homogeneous and fine-grained microstructure suitable for secondary processes were successfully manufactured.
