MAC LAM: New Software for the Mechanical Analysis of Composites and Laminates

This paper is a description of a new software called MAC LAM: "Mechanical Analysis of Composites and LAMinates". The software contains three modules. The first one is a friendly interface of classical formulae of micromechanics based on linear elasticity. The second module is based on the classical laminate theory and helps determine the apparent properties of a laminate, the strains and stresses for a given load and the failure envelope. The third module calculates the edge effects on the interfacial stresses in a laminate based on a model of multi-layered materials described on a previous paper. The most important features of MAC LAM are the material and laminate libraries, its flexibility and the calculation of edge effects for any type of boundary conditions even for a high number of layers. The authors show several application examples which prove that MAC LAM can be a worthy tool in composite structure design and a helpful software for teaching mechanics of composite materials.
