摘要

After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 an economic crisis occurred in the Russian Federation. The agricultural sector also suffered this crisis, leading to many farms becoming bankrupt. The number of animals decreased sharply during the earlynineties. The economy reached its lowest point in August 1998, with a strong devaluation of the Russian Rouble and a major reduction in Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Russian economy recovered strongly after the crisis and, since 2000, the annual growth in GDP averaged 5 - 8 % per year (Figure 1). In 2007 the GDP reached 10,640 dollar per capita.
