Electroacupuncture Treatment for Acute Thoracolumbar Disk Disease Type I Grade 4 C in Condrodistrophic Dogs Not Treated with Surgery

Thoracolumbar disk disease is one of the most common neurological disorders seen in the small animal practice. Degenerative changes in the disk tend to lead to protrusion or herniation of the disk components in to the vertebral canal. Disk degeneration occurs with aging in non-chondrodytrophoid breeds and at a greatly accelerated rate in the chondrodystrophoid breeds (Dachshund, Beagle, Cocker, etc). Disk herniation has been classified according to the way in which the herniation occurs (CHERICHETTI& ALVARENGA, 1999).
