This paper summarizes the status of sublevel coal caving in difficult and complicated thick coal seams in China. It introduces the practice of sublevel coal caving by using light powered support in large dip in Kailuan coalfield and the complete set of fully mechanized sublevel coal caving equipment used in Nantun Colliery, Yanzhou Coalfield as well as its process research to raise the key technology to solve difficulty for sublevel coal caving in thick coal seams including technological measures for powered supports compatible to working face.
