Fenestration of a Bitemporal Septated Refractary Ventriculitis. Case Report,Analysis and Overview of the Literature

The intraventricular infections continues to be a potentially lethal postoperative disease with a very difficult solution only with the antibiotics, specially when the formation of loculated spaces within the ventricles produce entrapping and obstruction of the normal circulation of the cerebro spinal fluid (CSF).The development of the neuroendoscopic procedures can eventually contribute in the management of this severe complication. We present the case of a 47 years old woman with a postoperative entrapped bitemporal ventriculitis untreatable with the antibiotics, with total resolution by the first neuroendoscopic procedure applied by Uruguayan's neurosurgeons.
