Aimed at transferring genes for salinity tolerance and disease resistance from Thinopyrumbessarabicum into common wheat, T. aestivum cv. Chinese Spring- Th. bessarabicum amphiploid was crossed to Chinese Spring. Seven T. aestivum-Th. bessarabicum disomic additions and five segmental translocations involving different wheat and Th. bessarabicum chromosome arms were developed from backcrossed progenies, and identified with assistance of chromosome C-banding and GISH analysis. The lines showed fairly stable transmission of the added and translocated chromosomes. Determination of the homoeologous groups of the added chromosomes and the breakpoints of the translocation are being studied.
