During 2001-2002 years, in Romania was prepared a new edition of General Norms of Labour Protection which includes the appropriate European Directives. As regarding the noise exposure of workers, the Directive 86/188/CEE on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to noise at work was completely included in the General Norms of Labour Protection. In the same time, following the advice of the Department of Labour Relations in the Labour and Solidarity Ministry of France, the project of a new edition of 86/188/CEE Directive was considered. Thus, in the General Norms of Labour Protection, the noise level which triggers the preventing measures against the noise exposure (supplying of personal ear protectors and adequate information regarding potential risks to the hearing, access to the results of noise measurements) is 80 dB(A), while the 86/188/CEE Directive specifies the 85 dB(A) noise level for this action. Also, the noise level which triggers the compulsory protection measures (noise control measures, use of personal ear protectors, restricted access and appropriate signs of warning) is 85 dB(A) while the 86/188/CEE Directive specifies the 90 dB(A) noise level for this action. In addition, relative to the 86/188/CEE Directive, the General Norms of Labour Protection specifies the following limits for the work places: the limit for the daily personal noise exposure of a worker is 87 dB(A); the limit for the work places with grown neuro-psychic requirement is 75 dB(A), and the limits for the work places with special neuro-psychic requirement are 50 dB(A) and 60 dB(A), depending the work place. The General Norms Labour Protection also include the annexes of the 86/188/CEE Directive with indications for measuring noise and checking workers hearing.
