Parallel to the progress of plasma physics materials research and development for fusion devices has advanced. Materials and fabrication technologies are at hand to build the next step device ITER. ITER will have reactor relevant size performance. The plasma facing materials will be Be, CFC and W. Regarding structural materials for reactors beyond ITER, recently developed low activation steel shows performance which is compatible with key fusion reactor requirements. Progress in plasma physics has opened a wide operational parameter window to apply tungsten as a low erosion plasma facing material for fusion power reactors.
