摘要

Superoxide dismutases (SOD) are an important antioxidant defense both outside (tissue cells) and inside the bloodstream. Aims: To determine if low levels of SOD are associated with changes in adipocytokines and biomarkers. Methods: N= 204 with moderate-high CV risk. SOD, hs-TNF-alpha, Resistin, IL-6, TBARS, TAC, oxLDL and NT were evaluated. Results The low-SOD group presented higher TBARS and lower TAC. Adipocytokine TNF-alpha, unlike IL-6 and resistin, showed higher levels in patients with diminished SOD. Surprisingly lower values of NT and oxLDL were obtained in the low-SOD group. Both statin treatment and diabetic status were ruled out as cause of these unexpected results. Conclusions: Diminished SOD levels are accompanied by elevated TNF- alpha. Low-SOD is related to oxidative stress measured by TAC and TBARS.
