Determinant factors of the carotid intima-media thickness in a treated population with moderate-high cardiovascular risk.

Carotid Intima-media thickness is a significant positive predictor of angiographi-cally proven Coronary Artery Disease. AIMS: To evaluate CIMT determinants in a heterogeneous population with moderate-high CVR. PATIENTS AND METHODS: N=116 with moderate-high CV risk. IMT by High-resolution HP Image Point HX. ABI by Ultrasonic Doppler 811B. RESULTS: 1. IMT >= 0.75 was observed in 23.3%. 2. IMT was strongly correlated to age. 2. No differences by sex. 3. Multivariate linear regression analysis: Age, CVD and ABI were independent predictors of IMT values. CONCLUSIONS: 1. The most important factor was age. Other independent factors were CVD and ABI. 2. The haemodynamic and metabolic parameters can be influenced by treatment in our population.
