Epicardial versus transvenous left ventricular lead placement in cardiac resynchronization therapy: differences in long-term follow-up?

Coronary sinus catheterization for implantation of left ventricular lead in cardiac resynchronization therapy is not always feasible, with epicardial implantation of left lead being an attractive alternative. Although similar benefit at a short-medium follow-up has been recently shown, little is known about this benefit at long-term. The aim of this study is to compare both strategies efficacy, in terms of clinical and echocardio-graphic response, including all patients submitted to cardiac resynchronization therapy in our center between 2002/2008, with minimum follow-up period of 2 years.
