The reaction of HCOOH has been investigated over the surfaces of UO_2(111) single crystal and polycrystalline UO_2. Two channels for formate decomposition were observed, between 500 and 700 K, by TPD and IR. The first consisted of CO and CO_2 while the second was mainly due to CO_2. Quantitatively both single crystal and powder surfaces showed similar product distribution with small formation of ethylene in the single crystal case only.
