Managing complex respiratory disease: Implications of breeding herd management on growing pig respiratory health

Our foreseeable operating environment contains several forces are raising expectations for growing pig performance. Shortage of skilled labor, high feed costs, increasing facility cost and competition for growers are pushing systems to implement practices to improve growing pig health at the sow farm level in lieu of the nursery, finisher or wean to finish site. This paper will serve to review some of the practices that have been adopted in breeding herds to improve growing pig performance.
