Evaluation of the changes in total mortality fates observed after a six month use of CIRCOVAC~(R) porcine circovirus vaccine allowed In Canada for emergency use

Porcine circovirus type 2 infection has been associated with disease for more than a decade and has become an especially important problem in Canadian swine production in 2005, causing significant losses. The present study provides an early evaluationof the efficacy in reducing total mortality in Canadian farms with CIRCOVAC~(R) Porcine Circovirus Sow Vaccine (Type 2, Killed Virus), by evaluating changes in reported total mortality rates in production systems having employed a full six-month cycle of vaccination of all their sows. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has allowed importation of CIRCOVAC vaccine for emergency use since early 2006; the first vaccinations were done in early April.
