Porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV) is an agent of inclusion body rhinitis in pigs and causes economic losses in the swine industry due to respiratory disorders in growing pigs as well as reproductive problems including abortion in pregnant pigs (1). Diagnosis of PCMV infection was performed usually by immunofluorescent assay and ELISA (3). Generally these methods were not sensitive and specific in comparison with PCR based assays. Therefore more specific and sensitive methods to diagnosis PCMV are required. In Korea, serological survey revealed PCMV infection was widely distributed in pig herds (2). However, it has not been conducted for PCMV isolation and sequencing of its genome in Korea. The objective of this study is to isolate and sequence Korean strains of PCMV and development of nested PCR assay to diagnosis it.
