Cone calorimeter data are presented for various copper compounds that had been shown to act as crosslinking agents for poly(vinyl chloride) via reductive coupling. When they are used in rigid plaques at the level of 10 wt%, these additives tend to inhibit both smoke and flame and are generally more effective than ammonium octamolybdate. The question of synergism between reductive coupling promoters and Lewis acid additives also is addressed.
