INVESTIGATIONS INTO WEATHERED PROFILES IN DAILY USE

The mechanism of weathering of PVC profiles have been intensively investigated in the past. In several cases the cause of these discoloration could be identified, and in many cases the additives can play a major role. The recent presentation shows the influence of environment and of way of life. A yellow discoloration took place on windows after a period of some years. It will be shown that techniques like electron microscopy, EDX analysis, FTIR, RAMAN spectroscopy and TOF-SIMS combined with Xenotest and natural weathering can be applied to clear up the cause which is responsible for this special type of yellowing of window profiles. The presentation should give an insight in a systematic work which will help to avoid claims.
