Egg, larval, and adult stages of northern corn rootworms, Diabrotica barberi Smith and Lawrence (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), were grid-sampled in rotated corn at a study site near Elkton, in Moody County, SD. Grid-samples also were taken to characterize rootworm larval injury to roots and soil electromagnetic (EM-38) induction properties. Possible relationships between distributions of corn rootworm life stages, measured soil parameters, and landscape position are discussed with reference to prospects for a management zone approach to site-specific management of northern corn rootworms.
