The emphasis on reduced cost in space electronics has led to the investigation of common circuitry across multiple applications. This paper explores the use of a common half-bridge power circuit for use in a space Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS). The half-bridge circuit is used for magnetic bearing control and bi-directional power flow in conjunction with a synchronous motor. The paper discusses aspects of the circuit design as well as the associated control systems
