Using half-bridge topologies as power electronic building blocks (PEBBS)

The emphasis on reduced cost in space electronics has led to the investigation of common circuitry across multiple applications. This paper explores the use of a common half-bridge power circuit for use in a space Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS). The half-bridge circuit is used for magnetic bearing control and bi-directional power flow in conjunction with a synchronous motor.
