While raw data is rarely of direct benefit, the true value is predicated on the ability to extract information useful for decision support or exploration and understanding the phenomena governing the data source (FAyyad and Uthurusamy, 1996), so a new branch emerges: Knowledge Discovery in Database (KDD).
