In the recent the contribution of daylighting to energy saving has been largely recognised. Further more, a better use of natural light produces better working and living in terms of comfort, satisfaction and productivity. As a consequence the interest on technologies able to enhance daylighting penetration and distribution in indoor environment is currently growing. This paper analyses one of the most innovative daylighting systems: the light pipe. A description of different light pipe systems and a performance analysis are presented here. The main aim of this study to provide designers with simple tools which allow a better knowledge of the light pipe's working and therefore a more correct application.
