With the program "CASAnova -^sAn Educational Software for Energy and Heating Demand, Solar Heat Gains and Overheating Risk in Buildings" a software-tool is available since the end of 1999 which effectively deals with the whole matter. It can be used intuitively in order to understand the relations between building geometry, orientation, insulation, glazing, solar heat gains, heating demand, heating and primary energy as well as overheating in summer. CASAnova is an upgrade to the program "CASA", which formerly was developed in 1996 at the University of Siegen in the Group for Building Physics & Solar Energy [1,2,3]. Its development had been financially supported by the AG Solar Nordrhein-Westfalen within the project "Software Laboratory for Low Energy Solar Architecture". The educational software CASAnova is available for free download at the website of the Group for Building Physics & Solar Energy at: http://nesa1.unisiegen.de/. Purpose and main features of this software-tool are shortly described in the following sections of this paper.
