The development of self emulsifying, ionically stabilized PVB-dispersions allows to formulate waterborne primers with similar properties as the well-known solventborne systems. Especially a cationically stabilized PVB-dispersion is well suited for being processed with the addition of phosphoric acid (like in solventborne lacquers) which results in excellent adhesion an various metals (especially on non-ferrous metals) and plastics. This waterborne system also exhibits equivalent humidity and corrosion protection properties compared to the analogue solventborne primer.
