Investigation of thermal performance of artificial roughened solar air heater

This paper presents an experimental investigations of the enhancement of thermal performance of solar air heater by providing wire-screen mesh (metal) as artificial on the under side of its absorber plate. Tests were conducted to cover wide range of influencing parameters including geometry of wire screens, mass flow rates and input solar energy flues under acutal outdoor conditions. Effects of these parameters on the thermal performance has been investigated and results have been compared with those of plane (flat plate) collectors. These tests provide useful data for rating wirescreen matrices roughened collectors based on thermal performance. It is observed that the performance of plane collectors improves appreciably by roughing its absorber with wire-screen matrix and this improvement is a strong function of system and operating parameters.
