Fuel properties play a significant role in emissions. By changing fuel properties, we can control emissions from I.C engines to a great extent. The properties, which affect emission in diesel engines, are cetane number, aromatic content, density; sulphur content and oxygen and those which affect emissions in gasoline engines are olefin content, RVP, T90, sulphur content and oxygen in the fuel. This paper reviews the effect of each and every one of these properties upon emissions from I.C. engines.
