Development and utilization of information technology systems in construction

摘要

This paper reviews the creation and development of systems utilizing information technology in construction engineering and management which have been developed within the Construction Engineering and Management Group at the University of New Brunswick. Systems in the areas of risk, equipment selection, change orders, facilities management and life cycle costs, and claims are briefly described. The effectiveness of the creation of innovative systems in the construction industry using high technological tools is briefly discussed. The ease of the introduction and integration of software and other tools such as spreadsheets, data base software, expert systems, shell programs, artificial intelligence into an industry which is fundamentally conservative and historically slow to change is examined.
