Cross-sectional imaging, including computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), is being increasingly used in veterinary medicine due to greater accessibility of the equipment and increased owner expectations. Careful patient selection is warranted and should always supplement conventional diagnostic tools. Both CT and MRI require patient immobility and nonmanual restraint; therefore general anesthesia is usually necessary (Dennis 2003).
