Dentistry can be broken down into seven different disciplines, which includes extractions (or exodontics), endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, and restorative dentistry. Effectively meeting the requirements of each can help you be successful in obtaining client compliance. This lecture will focus on these requirements and the level of compliance the owner needs to be committed to in order to guarantee success. Extractions, or exodontics, are the most common treatment for periodontal disease, endodontic disease, and malocclusions. Why is this? It could be secondary to the cost associated with other dental procedures and/or lack of education on the part of the veterinary staff and owner. Most people want the simplestand most inexpensive solution to a problem. But how about clients who want to spend a little more to help their pets maintain functional teeth? There are other options to choose from when clients are willing to make a commitment to the oral health of their pets.
