Clinical applications for laparoscopy and thoracoscopy have been developed and can be performed by practitioners who want to become proficient in minimally invasive techniques. Simple procedures, such as many laparoscopie assisted surgeries and laparoscopie biopsies, can be done by surgeons with modest skills. Minimally invasive surgery reduces the surgical insult and would seem to be preferred over traditional open approaches for any operation that can be performed by laparoscopy. Although researchstudies have documented decreased stress responses following minimally invasive surgery, we would request laparoscopy for ourselves as we believe it to be less invasive. Clients frequently rationalize, "I want the same advanced medical/surgical treatmentfor my four-legged family member as I want for myself" The surgeon also can see the diseased area better and can easily record these images. Minimally invasive surgical treatments have dramatically advanced patient care for people, and companion animalpractice is following this trend.
